Durham-Based CandleScience Doubles Footprint of East Coast Fulfillment Center, Prepares for Unprecedented Growth
Posted on October 12, 2020
Durham, N.C. (October 12, 2020) – CandleScience, an online retailer of candle and soap-making supplies, recently signed a lease for a 144,000-square foot manufacturing headquarter within the Regional Commerce Center at 1247 Person Street in Durham. Foundry Commercial’s Jim Allaire, SIOR represented landlord Scannell Properties in the transaction, while Jackson Rives and Alexis Lambeth – also with Foundry – represented CandleScience.
“I have had the distinct pleasure of watching CandleScience’s successful story unfold as a trusted real estate advisor over the past 9 years,” said Jackson Rives, Principal, Foundry Commercial. “They have always treated me as part of the family, so it’s especially gratifying to have been a part of this major milestone in the company’s history.”
CandleScience is bucking many trends in the face of a global health crisis, prompting the company to both double the size of its East Coast fulfillment center as well as to recruit additional staff. Since April, CandleScience has been steadily hiring for warehouse positions and plans to add at least another 40 new positions in the coming months.
“We’re very happy to be able to commit long-term to the Durham community, and keep our business here while increasing our size and capabilities. We owe much of our success to the quality of the workforce in Durham and look forward to being able to offer more quality job opportunities to our community,” stated Mike Swimm, Co-Founder of CandleScience.
Located between downtown Durham and Research Triangle Park, the Class-A, rear-load industrial building is ideally located to provide tenants with quick and convenient accessibility to major thoroughfares and transportation hubs. Just 12 miles to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, Regional Commerce Center offers uninterrupted distribution to every major market in the country. The center is located only 4 miles from Interstate 85 via East End Connection, 8 miles from Interstate 40, and 12 miles from Interstate 540.
CandleScience expects a move-in date of early to mid-2021. The space that CandleScience will occupy features two 12’ x 14’ drive-in doors with motorized roll-ups, 17 dock doors with knockouts available for 16 additional doors, a 32’ clear height, approximately 120 parking spaces, load-bearing concrete exterior walls, high-bay LED lighting fixtures, and a mechanically attached insulated roof. The facility is also adjacent to a future build-to-suit development opportunity of 50,000 – 500,000 square feet.
